Design Data Partners with Collin College to Provide Industry Training
Design Data has partnered with Collin College in Plano, Texas, to provide industry-related training — including hands-on SDS/2 software classes to detailers and fabricators — in the Plano / Dallas / Fort Worth area.
Natalie Greenwell, Collin College's director of workforce and economic development, is in the process of submitting a state-sponsored Skills Development Fund grant proposal to the Texas Workforce Commission. The grant will support a series of 14 courses, including Basic 3D Modeling with SDS/2 (Version 7.1); BIM Integration; CNC Data Exchange; Project Management; and LEED Certification. The objectives of the courses are to provide specialized training in the areas where employees need industry standard instruction.
“From entry to advanced level, these classes are specifically designed to strengthen companies by upgrading the employee work skills needed right now,” said Greenwell. The training program is coordinated by her staff and developed in partnership with local businesses. The customized training will be provided tuition-free to partnering steel detailers and fabricators in the area.
The grant proposal will be submitted in March2009. If funding is granted, this will be the 10th Skills Development Fund Grant Collin College has received. Over the last five years, they have deployed over $7.2 million in grant funded training. The Skills Development Fund supports training incumbent workforce and new hires within a specific industry.
